Where were you when Silksong came out? - W36

Here are my weeknotes from September 2 to 8, 2025!

The time has come, after so many years and expectations and memes. It is the dawn of a new era in the gaming world, and I was there for it. I was there. What else matters at this point? when such a wonderful work of love has been unveiled, an amazing gift, for the unworthy ones, those for whom the bell tolls—Silksong is upon us.

It should be obvious that this game is what took most of my free time since its release last Thursday, but there were a couple of other things that happened so I guess I gotta write them down in case I want to remember something else about this period of time, other than Silksong’s release, which is unlikely but who knows.

  • 📦 On Tuesday, I asked to leave work early so I could pick up my copy of Overscan and Father’s Day from the mail (bought at Nantucket Lit), after I got a delivery notification saying it was attempted and failed because nobody was home. I went downtown to receive the package and opened it on the spot. I’m glad to have the physicals for these, I read the first few stories of Overscan while sitting at a bench downtown, under some trees and on a cloudy weather, it was rather comfy.
  • 🗒️ Writing my review for Hollow Knight in the dawn of the last day and transferring screenshots from my Switch to my computer was a bit of a surreal experience. Same goes for writing two book reviews in a row, just wow.
  • 📅 September 4th, 2025. I was eagerly waiting for the release of Silksong, I tried to log-in to the eShop, and the game was still unavailable for purchase, I checked the site from the US frontend, and it was there! at 20 bucks. However, I couldn’t buy it because my region was Mexico. I waited for a while longer, I was in the chat in the TWG Online Discord, where everyone was going bananas trying to buy the game on Steam and the eShop and Humble Bundle and nothing worked, it was the first boss of the game! I finally managed to purchase it at 8:45 am, and at regional pricing!—only 12 bucks for Mexico—but I couldn’t play it until I was off from work, at 6 pm. That was an epic day.
  • 💿 Unsurprisingly, I ended up buying the soundtrack for the original Hollow Knight and for Silksong as well on Bandcamp. Both are simply masterpieces! I also ordered the Wanderer’s Journal from Fangamer—I just couldn’t resist anymore. 🙂

Gaming

  • 🪡 Hollow Knight: Silksong - The game everyone’s been waiting for, the sequel of Hollow Knight is out. Silksong has been an incredible success. I’ve been playing this game for 17 hours at this point, and it’s amazing. The movement is so fluid, the animation is incredible, the world of Pharloom is stunning, the score by Christopher Larkin is sublime. The boss fights are tough as nails. This game has trapped me and I don’t want to escape, I want to play it more and suffer as I die over and over and I figure out the patterns of the enemies around me. I will keep playing more of it. Right now I am still not done with Act 1 (yes it’s divided in acts!) and I’m looking forward to how it develops the story. I’m currently sharing my journey through the game on Mastodon, as well as clips of boss fights and the like.
  • 🗡️ Ys I & II Chronicles - I relaxed a little on Ridge Racer 2, and decided to switch gears to a classic action RPG, in this case, Ys I! I started it and I’m talking to pretty much everyone to figure out where to go next. I’ve only played for about 40 minutes, but it seems kinda neat. I don’t mind the bump combat either, but the game isn’t gripping me that much, I’ll give it a bit more time though, it’s hard to actually pay attention to it when Silksong exists.
  • 🎲 Slice & Dice - Things calmed down a little when it comes to the time I dedicated to this game, but it was still quite a bit. I have managed to get another victory at last! But not many more, sad times.
  • 🛡️ Fullmetal Furies - We just did an arena fight level in couch co-op. It was actually kind of frenetic, but we managed to get it done. Started another one but time ran out.

Watching

  • 🚀 Fantastic Four: First Steps - Well this movie was quite awesome! I really enjoyed it thoroughly, the retrofuture aesthetic, the actual plot itself, it really felt like a return to form for the original Superhero Family! I must admit I couldn’t help but compare it with the Incredibles though, and in any comparison the Incredibles is better. However, after so many Marvel films that are so interconnected and difficult to watch in a vacuum, this one was great.
  • 🕷️ Along Came a Spider - A good old thriller filled to the brim with plot twist after plot twist. I must say that the initial crash scene is what I kept thinking about all the time because it’s so whacky, I also saw it on a Corridor Crew reaction video a while back.

Reading

  • 🖥 Overscan, an anthology book edited by Nicholas Bernhard, featuring seven short stories from different authors, including one from my friend Amin. It is a quick read but I haven’t finished it just yet!
  • 🤖 Artificial Condition is the second entry in The Murderbot Diaries, and I am currently on chapter 5! It’s been quite fun so far, it feels less rushed than the first one, and I quite enjoy this ART character that got introduced, interested to know the new cast of human characters as well.
  • 🏰 Ariadne in the Blue Sky up to chapter 83! Not that much new progress but yeah this is still pretty good.
  • 🚀 Nemesis Games is over! Just read my review for more. Awesome book.
  • 🤖 All Systems Read is over! Just read my review for more. Awesome book too.

There is a bit of a theme going on here I think…
