Oh yeah here comes another media recap of everything that happened throughout the month of August. This was a very interesting time of the year. Filled with a lot of details you can find on my weeknotes. Here’s an overview of how things went.
Podcasts
This month I listened to 67 hours of podcasts! Pretty alright and normal to be honest.
- ✨ Wolf 359 - Up to episode 24! Again, huge recommendation for this show. it is what got me into Podcasts in the first place many years ago.
- Into The Aether - This includes Any Percent and the new Port Aether Short Leave shoes in the Patreon feed. Awesome stuff!
- Revolutions - The French Revolution takes a very long while, I am still at it!
- Avatar: Braving the Elements - I’ve returned to this show to listen to Korra’s and Zuko’s VAs just doing their thing, interviews with different people who participated in the show, and retrospectives of every episode!
- The Ten Minute Bible Hour - The show finally reached the parables from the gospel of Matthew and it has been incredibly interesting to listen to the different ways to interpret the meaning behind them.
- Talk Ville - Clark and Lex talking about the Smallville show! (the actors, I mean), only listened to a couple, but they’re fun.
Movies
Movies were everywhere during August, the highlight is definitely the Alien franchise! I have talked so much about movies on my weeknotes that this time it’ll just be the list and a super short summary. I even did a post specifically about the Alien tetralogy.
- Aliens - Alien but more of them, with soldiers and mechas.
- Alien 3 - Aliens happy ending gets ruined, in a jail planet filled with prisoner zealots.
- Alien Resurrection - Alien but Ripley is cloned and has Alien DNA.
- Prometheus - A prequel to everything, it seems. Actually kind of liked it a lot!
- Alien Covenant - Alien before the original Alien. Seems to have received mixed reviews, but I still enjoyed it anyway.
- Overcomer - Just another meh christian sports film.
- Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe - Best Lion and CGI than The Lion King’s remake, epic soundtrack too, pure nostalgia.
Anime & Shows
- Alien Earth - I decided to watch this on a whim and it is what triggered to just watch the whole Alien franchise while I was at it. I am really enjoying it, not as something like, fun, but it’s intriguing and very interesting, filled with science fiction concepts everywhere, which I kind of like. I have a feeling that it has lots of mistakes or plotholes but honestly I don’t care because it works for me.
Books
- Nemesis Games - Almost done with this book, right now I’m on chapter 42, it has been a really thrilling journey, and everyone is in danger, and everything is in chaos, and I am pretty hyped as to what is going to happen next!s
- All Systems Red - This has been a new read I just begun. I bought the Martha Well’s Humble Bundle and the Murderbot series was included, so I decided to give it a go! Only 2 chapters in, but I am enjoying it.
Games
Completed
- Hollow Knight - What if this if not the best indie Metroidvania Soulslike ever? or at least, until Silksong comes out? Review coming soon!
- Jet Lancer - Super bombastic arcade shooter which I really enjoyed and got hooked by, give it a go! My review is up
- Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade - Strategy RPG that goes straight to the point, with extremely epic animations I’ll never grew tired of. Review here!
Ongoing
- Slice & Dice - Extremely addictive and masterfully designed dice-builder roguelike. Totally loving it.
- The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy - Progressed through my second run, some very fun moments, even romantic ones too, the fights are the most repetitive part now!
- Ridge Racer 2 - Absolutely mesmerizing racing and drifting experience on the go, I finally embraced the first person mode too, you are not the driver, you ARE THE CAR!
- Faster Than Light - I tried a few runs literally yesterday, and had a lot of fun doing so. I really gotta get back into it.
- Final Fantasy VI - I tried just a couple of fights in the overworld and a mini-boss fight. Cool as ever, gotta play it more.
- Advance Wars - Returned to this little game and discovered that I was only playing the tutorial! Will definitely play more of the campaign now.
- TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge - Just one evening of pure arcade beat’em up fun with some kiddos.
- Mario vs Donkey Kong - Decided to have this for those short moments where I can’t really focus on anything else, fun levels!
- Portal 2 - Still only playing co-op mode, aaaaaaah.
- Marvel SNAP - Just some matches here and there against online strangers.
- Ultimate Chicken Horse - Fun time with friends.
Manga
- Ariadne in the Blue Sky - Up to chapter 80. Having a blast with this fantasy adventure, fun, chill and with pretty good fight sequences too. Liking it quite a bit.
- My Wife is from a Thousand Years Ago - Up to chapter 261 - Kind of a spoiler but the title already does so, they are officially married! Although there’s no wedding event yet.
- Komi Can’t Communicate - Up to chapter 449 - Mostly just short stories with side characters since I went back to this, I hope it gets to the main couple again soon.
- Usogui - Up to chapter 63 - Quite a lot of action and fights for a gambling manga, I’ll see what happens next.
- Spy x Family - Up to chapter 120 - The story telling of these side character stories has been superb and really emotional, I am up for these kind of moments over Komi’s comic relief as of late.
- Sakamoto Days - Up to chapter 223 - It kind of feels like a finale for this Manga is coming soon, but I can’t tell, I just know the action absolutely rips.
