More aliens, more rain and camping - W34

Here are my weeknotes from August 19 to 25, 2025!

Oh right, I should be writing my weeknotes right now, so let’s start.

This week was absolutely hectic, lots of things happened but it’s also more of the same.

  • 🛠️ I got another piece of furniture. For once, it’s not IKEA. It’s an organizer divided into eight sections I plan to use as a books and videogames shelf! However, I have been very lazy and I am yet to actually assemble it. My parents got it from Costco and it’ll be the second of these I get. I bought one around the time I started doing weeknotes and somehow didn’t bring it up, but I use that one with foldable boxes (included!) as a set of drawers for my clothes.

  • 🕶️ I ended up falling into the online eyeglasses shopping craze and ordered two after the ones I just got… at least I’ll be able to mix and match!

  • 🚌 My city got new buses and is testing new routes. People are very upset about this, because getting to places takes a lot longer. In my case, I didn’t know about this until very late, and took the wrong bus. At first I thought maybe they were fixing the roads, but I looked it up and found a Facebook (🤮) post about it. In the end, I spent a whole hour going the wrong way. I didn’t even go to the gym, it was just too late and I was out of it.

  • 📻 Despite this annoyance, at the very least I listened to a lot of episodes of Wolf 359, I finished season 1 and the first few episodes of season 2. Again, listen to that podcast if you have not, it’s really good sci-fi drama. I had forgotten many things, and it’s awesome to reexperience this story. I decided to subscribe to their Ad-Free Patreon tier for 1 buck a month. I could download the whole thing if I wanted to since it’s not super long either.

  • 🌧️ On a different day, it started raining a lot, and I stood up on the bus stop bench to avoid getting my shoes wet, I felt like such a child, but I was the only one there, it didn’t matter either way, it was fun. Yeah this week will be defined by how much it rained.

  • 🏕️ We had a camping weekend! A few families from church got together and set up some tents to stay out from their homes a couple days. It was a pretty fun time, we had a campfire, sang songs, played games and all that good stuff. In the early morning, rain attacked once again and most of the sleeping bags got wet, but they dried up throughout the following day. There was a roof in the patio so the next night they just put all the tents under it, the kids had fun nonetheless. At first I kinda didn’t want to go and just didn’t buy a tent at all so I was going home after the events were over. I honestly felt bad in the end so I’m definitely buying a tent for next time. 😬

  • 🧗We wanted to go up a trail to a plateau close by, and watch the morning sunrise. Sadly, rain struck again. We drove to the base of the plateau and waited for a bit, but it wasn’t meant to be.

Gaming

Quite a lot of games this time around, it can’t be helped. Still no progress on any of the big guns though, mostly just pick-up and play experiences. I think I will return to Hollow Knight so I beat it before Silksong comes out!

  • 🐢 TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge - I played like 4 levels of this game with some friends earlier in the week. I finally unboxed my physical edition and we had a great time playing it together. It’s such a cool beat’em up and pretty quick to pick up even for newcomers.

  • 🏎️ Ridge Racer 2 - I am still drifting through the tracks of this game, I am still going at the PRO level and the speed is real. The sountrack of this game is absolutely incredible, so much hype and build-up at every moment. Just go and play this even if you think you hate racing games, seriously.

  • 🪖 Advanced Wars - Finally started the campaign! They just added a new mechanic I didn’t know existed, which is that I have to buy my own machinery and troops. That’s interesting and a bit of a downer because I am terrible at making decisions in these games (and real life too maybe) but still, I have managed to keep going so far.

  • 🧊 Marvel SNAP - I went back to this mobile game, I just enjoy the super quick style of the matches here, and I honestly love the mechanics of it all. It’s a genuinely good experience all the time. I am so lazy and haven’t tried any new cards and I still keep winning decently well, it’s awesome to one up my opponents in the craziest of ways.

  • 🎲 Slice & Dice - Sotolf mentioned this game literally today and in the span of writing this post I already played the 12 levels of the demo, and ended up buying it. I blame you Sotolf, this is your fault. I was happy…

Watching

These movies couldn’t be further apart from each other, what a strange decision to watch them all..

  • 🚀 Alien Resurrection - The fourth Alien film competing with the 3rd movie as the worst of the franchise. Honestly I didn’t mind it at all and it was nice to see multiple Aliens again that this time aren’t as easy to kill as they were on the second film. I wrote a bunch about all these movies so see that post.

  • 🛸 Prometheus - The prequel to Alien that is more like a movie in the same universe but many many years before. Still, it was a pretty awesome movie on its own and I really enjoyed it. Cool creature design and interesting story with all of that space horror mixed in between. I kinda wish we could’ve figured out more about… everything, but I guess explaining things is boring in a movie meant to scare you and stuff.

  • 🦁 The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe - Someone at home wanted to give this one a watch and it still holds up really well! I just can’t help but gasp at how absolutely perfectly Aslan’s visual effects hold up 20+ years later, also the whole fashion and props departments here did a great job. What an epic movie.

  • ⛹️‍♀️ Overcomer - Well, this is a faith-based film that is way too preachy for its own good. However, there are not many movies about trail running, so if you are into that sport maaaaybe give it a go? I really liked that final race scene to be honest.

Reading

Still the same two things as last week!

  • 🚀 Nemesis Games - I read up to chapter 39! A little bit more progress was made this time around, and the story keeps getting kind of grim. I still really love it though and I am super intrigued to see what happens next. So much chaos is going on, but the last chapter I read from here is much more up close to one of the protagonists and deals with some really personal and difficult thoughts. The Coreys don’t cease to deliver.

  • 🏰 Ariadne in the Blue Sky - I read up to chapter 80 already, still pretty much only focusing on this one. The fact that this Manga got so overlooked despite being by the same guy who did Claymoore baffles me. It’s honestly a pretty great shonen and it has kept me hooked for two weeks already. Good stuff.
