They are watching me (play Silksong?) - W37

Here are my weeknotes from September 9 to 15, 2025!

Oh welp, sorry for missing yesterday on my weeknotes, it was a relatively busy monday this time around (I was just playing Silksong and like, house chores, and like, Mexican Independence Day), so I didn’t have time to do the write-up, but well, I hope this fixes it.

  • 🕹️ There was a Nintendo Direct this time around, and I am quite excited about a few games. The new Fire Emblem looks good (but I gotta beat Three Houses first), the new Dragon Quest VII Reimagined looks great (but I gotta beat XI first), Hades II looks absolutely incredible (but I gotta at least get credits on Hades first) and Metroid Prime 4 Beyond is also awesome (but I gotta beat Metroid Prime Remastered first).

  • 📻 Work is work, but I am happy to report that the same 5 songs they for some reason decided to play at the office to “chill and relax to” have finally been swapped out after so many months or so of the same playlist over and over again. It seems they also lowered the overall volume and this new music is much more zen and white-noisey than the others, so I can actually easily ignore them and not get melodies stuck in my head.

  • 🍽️ The evil upper management installed cameras in the dining rooms. Everyone I eat with got a notice because they “spend too much time for brunch” except for me (I am just a good worker who eats and doesn’t make any noises after I’m done I guess). To be fair, the rules don’t really allow brunch time (only lunch), but every office worker does it anyway, and everyone knows if you get a call to work on something, brunch is over and there’s that. I get wanting to be much stricter with schedules, but going as far as installing cameras there, it’s like Big Brother is watching or something, I just want to eat in peace.

  • 🛍️ When Silksong came out it was clear to me that I really really enjoyed Hollow Knight as a franchise, and alongside the soundtracks I bought last time, I ordered Hollow Knight’s Wanderer’s Journal!, a hardcover book featuring art and some lore of the game. Today it arrived, and it’s absolutely gorgeous to look at, I’m very happy with it. I also bought a Balatro card deck following the design of that game, and it’s lovely too.

  • 🦎 I finally played Godzilla: Tokyo Clash with friends! A pretty fun tabletop game where each of us is a Kaiju from the classic Godzilla universe (King Gidorah, Mothra, Megalon or, of course, Godzilla). The point of the game is to cause mayhem, destroy buildings and attack other monsters to get as many points as possible before humans develop the Oxygen Destroyer, which ends the game. It took a long time to get a grasp of the rules, we had to watch some videos and stuff, but we got the gist and decided to try it and it was pretty fun!

  • 🌮🎉 Mexican Independence Day! We had a noche mexicana and we played lots of party games. During the games I was in charge of the music so I got to play a bunch of music from Ridge Racer and Mario Kart while the players ran around trying to win at whatever competition the organizers set. Of course there was also lots of food, tacos, pozole and stuff, we sang our National Hymn and shouted: VIVA MEXICO!!!

Reading

Somehow I’ve managed to read a bunch of stuff, that’s pretty nice.

  • Artificial Condition - The second book in The Murderbot Diaries, I found a fantastic sequel that improves on everything the first one did. I quite liked the new characters here and the interactions of Murderbot with everyone else. Review is up
  • Rogue Protocol - The third book in The Murderbot Diaries, still chugging along, only read a couple of chapters, but it looks like it’ll be good! Will have to continue reading it.
  • Ariadne in the Blue Sky - Read up to chapter 95. A lot of stuff is happening right now, and bigger enemies are showing up against the protagonists now, I actually quite like the scaling here, and how everyone has changed thus far.
  • Wanderer’s Journal - This is a pretty nice book with art and notes told from the perspective of one of the wanderers exploring the vast world of Hollow Knight: Hallownest. It contained quite a lot of lore that I didn’t pick up from the game, and the art is beautiful, with a colorful and sketchy style that I loved. I completed the whole thing in a day! Not that it was novel-length, but still. I must say, reading a hardcover book was actually really nice, it had been a while since I held one of those.

Watching

My obsession with alien continues, I guess. I might have to watch the original Alien movie now because I’m running out of options.

  • 👽👾 Alien vs Predator - So yeah since I ran out of Alien movies I decided to watch this crossover. I think it was pretty cool! A lot of lore got completely thrown out of the window here of course since it’s very much filled with plotholes. However, as a mindless movie to watch it was pretty neat. The practical effects here were awesome as well, combined with the good enough CGI of the early 2000s.
  • 👽🌐 Alien Earth - I also catched up on the Show! It was a very interesting episode this time around, because everything is starting to crumble now, and I am looking forward to the mayhem that is to come.

Gaming

Do I really need to keep telling you that the same both games I’m playing have been great? Honestly though, I really hope the new update for my Anbernic handheld comes soon because I really want to play some retro games.

  • 🪡 Hollow Knight: Silksong - This game continues to be incredible. I’ve played it for 35 hours at this point, and it’s gorgeous. Yes, it has been hard, but nothing has managed to stop me from moving forward! I’ve been exploring quite a few locations now that I am in the Citadel, and the way this world is interconnected is just crazy. I have really enjoyed the couple of bosses I’ve faced and the new powerups that I’ve gotten.
  • 🗡️🎲 Slice & Dice - I did play a few hours of this one as well! Still excellent for the dead times at work, but definitely not as much of a priority this week.

Around the web

I didn’t read that many blogposts this week, too busy gaming and reading, but whatever!

  • What Happens After I’m Gone? The Future of the Online Me - I’ve seen quite a few posts like this one about what will happen to our sites after we go offline. I want to think I’ll have friends who might want to create a little section or even archive my stuff after I’m gone, I’d be happy enough with that.
  • A new hand dryer review - This is a very random post, and I absolutely love it, because I’ve been like this sometimes too, caring way too much about some random thing I see in a public restroom for no reason.
  • On Having the Patience To Solitaire - Wouter has been writing about card games for a a few days now, I specially liked this one, it’s pretty nostalgic!
  • Redefining Worth After Loss - Jedda has been going through some difficult time after losing her job, but remember, you are more just your job description.
  • Tech that actually works - Just a good story from Chris about how his new Wifi setup is like, super cool. I actually kind of want to fiddle with something like this as well…
